“Since 1980 I have noticed a development. From a fairly dense gestural surface, the canvas has opened up with areas of light and space, contrasted to areas of more activity, darkness, definition. Rather than density, claustrophobia, I want to give a sense of fluidity, movement.
I am concerned with the edges of the canvas. I like the feeling that the painting does not end at the edges but continues beyond the frame.”
